- Members pursuing a CI L3/BCU 3* qualification will be able to claim up to 50% of the cost of their training and assessment with a maximum subsidy of €75 upon successful assessment;
- Members pursuing a CI L4/BCU 4* qualification will be able to claim up to 50% of the cost of their training and assessment with a maximum subsidy of €250 upon successful assessment.
The higher subsidy for those pursing a CI L4/BCU 4* qualification reflects the increased costs associated with the training required for this qualification. It is hoped that this will provide more qualified and trained leaders for ISKA meets. In return for this financial support, ISKA will require subsidised recipients of a CI L4/BCU 4* qualification to participate as a leader at least two ISKA meets each year for the three years following their qualification.
To facilitate members pursuing a CI L4/BCU 4* qualification, the ISKA committee proposes to run a CI Level 4 (L4)/BCU 4* training and assessment programme in 2017. The complete programme will consist of:
- A two day CI L4/BCU 4* training course,
- A one day coastal navigation course,
- A two day REC2 course, and
- A two day CI Level 4/BCU4* assessment will take place a few months after the training.
The committee is initially seeking expressions of interest from members who are interested in pursuing a CI L4/BCU 4* qualification, either independently with local providers and/or through the ISKA programme proposed above. To be considered, you must have either:
- A CI Level 3/BCU 3* qualifications, and/or
- Previous experience of leading at ISKA meets.
If you are interested in pursuing a CI L4/BCU 4* qualification and would like to avail of the subsidy on offer, you should send an expression of interest by email to the ISKA Training Officer, Mick Carroll, (carroll1205@hotmail.com), giving details of:
- Your name, postal address, email address, and phone number,
- Your current qualifications,
- Any experience leading on ISKA meets,
- Any other relevant experience.
The committee will seek expressions of interest from members who are interested in pursuing a CI L3/BCU 3* qualification at a later date.
It is expected to repeat these training initiatives again in 2018, depending on the uptake and success of 2017 training initiatives, and funding available.
