Ireland circumnav.

Post by SteveGrimmer » Thu Jul 07, 2016 9:04 am

Hi, my daughter Niamh is going for it this year a month after her 18th birthday, solo and unsupported and despite parental concerns. She left Schull just over a week ago and is somewhere round the Arran Islands I believe. A huge thank you to Jon and Sean :D who have given her so much support and encouragement in my absence. It really is much appreciated guys! I hope the weather is on her side for the NW quadrant, and that any west coast paddlers whose territory she passes through can give her some much needed support. She is the girl with wild hair in a red Rockpool Alaw Bach with white hull and starfish.

Kind regards and thanks to all, Steve

This little lady landed in Kilkee yesterday, staying with Ted Chris and family last night, hitting the water early this morning, heading for White Strand beyond Spanish point.

Thanks for posting Connor and thanks to all who are helping her, from Jon down! Glad to see she is being responsible, spare paddle, leash, compass, chart, wearing her cag etc. per Jon and Sean she is heading for Arran Mor around now, and has some experienced company for this leg. Safe crossing! Cheers, Steve

Just heard from Niamh 12 midday Friday 15th, she is past Clifden and going round Achill. Belmullet next? Anyone who spots her maybe post a photo? She doesn't have a camera or Internet access herself. Thanks, Steve

Hi Steve
saw her passing Mace Head on the 12th. Sorry, didn't get a picture...would have needed better optics than my phone camera to pick her out

Thanks Tee, yes she spent that night in Bunowen, and has literally flown up the Mayo coast since. According to Sonja, she is somewhere in Sligo Bay heading for Killybegs I guess. Last I heard from her she was in Killaha, but that was a couple of days ago (Sunday 17th). Cheers

Well she made Donegal last night, crossing 50km from Easkey to Malin Beg in 8 hours. Many thanks to Sonja for talking her through the crossing. She has decided to press on to Portnoo today, to make the most of the present weather window, despite putting in 95km in the last 2 days! I guess she knows best.

Well she is round Malin, all south from here on. Something like 850km done so far and maybe 650km left to go.

Cheers

Hope she got to meet the dolphins headed west via Rathlin Sound (off Kinbane Head ) about 2 pm. Is worth looking out as there's some about most days just lately. All the best for a smooth run home.

She didn't mention it John, but she has seen a lot on the trip. Past Strangdford heading for Dundalk as of this morning.
