Re: Oileáin - off line

Long story short, above problem resolved. For anyone who hasn't seen it, just VIEW Oileáin on-line at www.oileain.org and click on any Grid Reference and be zoomed into an overhead shot of whatever - anywhere from Magilligan Point in Derry round (the long way) to Torbeg off the 'Hull (thanks Eoin Fl...

Oileáin - off line

Over four long months last winter the softcopy edition of Oileáin on the webpage oileain.org was seriously improved (thanks Eoin Flood), by constituting every single Grid-Reference (almost 2,000 of them) as a hyperlink to a satellite photo of the pier, beach, headland or harbour in question. Every s...

Re: OSI Consultaion Process

At 4.30 today I got a phonecall from the guy in OSI to whom I wrote last December, who deals with aspects of all this, and we had a great chat. He is passing it all on to another guy, Brian McArdle, who is their “channel man”, which I take it is in-house lingo for shallow water aspects of the whole ...

Oileáin News

With the succession of a new monarch to the throne of the neighbouring island etc, Oileáin is finally capable of being described as a “present fit for a King” as my mother typically described any bronntanas that even looked like it cost more than a ten bob note back in the day, even if he was “only”...

Inishturk, County Mayo

Has anyone circumnavigated Inishturk Mayo (the big wild one way out there, not the more civilised versions in Clew Bay or down Cleggan direction) and if so have they knowledge of or better still pictures of the cliffs of the southwest corner from about Dromore Head down to Carrickboorla area? Thanks...

Re: Sea Kayak stolen overnight Dublin D06 area

Thanks Chris. An interesting detail. Gardai had possession of my kayak within an hour of it going missing in the early hours Monday, but they had no idea how to trace an owner. Several Gardai googled away but got nowhere by shift’s end. One Garda then went home to his mother who, presenting him with...

Sea Kayak stolen overnight Dublin D06 area

My lovely sea kayak was stolen from the roof of my van parked on-street overnight. Romany Explorer, kevlar, white below yellow above with red trim. Foot pump. Tow rope. Rough home-made backrest. No name branded or anything. 20 years old but there are still a lot of good intentions invested in it. Ph...

Re: Oileáin News

The wonders of modern science ……….. Perhaps the biggest innovation with Project Oileáin since the publications of 2004 / 2014 has just been completed at https://www.oileain.org/ . All of the 1,500++ Grid References in the on-line text on screen are now hyperlinks that take the viewer directly to the...

Re: OSI Consultaion Process

I went at completing the OSI survey but the survey questions were way too targeted at hillwalkers for my purposes with regard to shallow water depth contours and the strange white band along the shoreline. Therefore I went for a full frontal assault. I wrote to the OSI guy setting out my case in cha...
