I've been in discussion/negotiation with CI's development officer and he has clarified their rules and agreed that they are vague. We can affiliate and there is NO requirement for all members to sign up, it's personal choice. We have this in writing. Subject to Committee approval, we will be affilia...

Reply received from Sea Kayaking Rep on Canoeing Ireland's TDU...... "I've asked them about it and all members within an affiliated club must sign up. Let’s be very clear here, ISKA would very much prefer to be affiliated to CI. Among other things, the committee would only be too delighted to be in a position to obtain discounted insurance rates for any member wishing to avail of it.

Any member who isn't a member of a CI affiliated club and doesn't want to spend €50 to join CI as an individual, CANI (Canoe Association of Northern Ireland) recreational membership is available for £18 (€20.56 at current exchange rates) which gives personal public liability cover up to £10,000,000....

ISKA has been affiliated to Canoeing Ireland for several years, leaving it free to members to choose whether or not to sign up for insurance.
