Claiming 2017 Training Subsidy

For 2017, the following training subsidies are available:

  • Members pursuing a CI L3/BCU 3* qualification will be able to claim up to 50% of the cost of their training and assessment with a maximum subsidy of €75 upon successful assessment;
  • Members pursuing a CI L4/BCU 4* qualification will be able to claim up to 50% of the cost of their training and assessment with a maximum subsidy of €250 upon successful assessment.

For 2017, the ISKA committee has set aside funding to subsidise a maximum of 20 ISKA members at CI L3/BCU 3*, and a maximum of 12 ISKA members at CI L4/BCU 4*.

If you wish to claim a training subsidy, please complete the claim form and return it to the committee before the 31st December 2017.

ISKA Symposium 2017

This year’s ISKA symposium will be in Coláiste UISCE, in Belmullet, co Mayo, the location of the 2012 and 2013 symposia, on October 13-15, 2017. The provisional agenda for the symposium is as follows:

Saturday 14 October

09:30 Briefing
10:30 Morning session/full day session on the water
13:00 Lunch
14:30 Afternoon session on the water
17:30 All sessions return to Uisce
18:00 Wreath laying at Blacksod lighthouse
19:00 AGM
20:00 Dinner
22:00 Pub quiz with raffle

Sunday 15 October
07:30 Breakfast
09:30 Briefing
10:30 Morning session/full day session on the water
13:00 Lunch
14:30 Any afternoon session on the water

There will be the usual selection of sessions, for example:

  • Incident management
  • Forward paddling
  • Greenland rolling
  • Leadership and seamanship
  • Moving water/tide races
  • Coastal navigation and/or open water navigation
  • Rock hopping
  • Surfing
  • VHF course
  • Full day paddle
  • Half day paddle
