ISKA Symposium 2014, Oct 18th & 19th

ISKA Symposium –

Dear Paddlers

Baltimore is our chosen venue for the 2014 ISKA symposium. Located on the most southerly peninsula in Cork, it is the gateway to Roaring Water Bay and its many islands. The two largest are Cape Clear and Sherkin, with some special features that make outstanding circumnavigations such as the spectacular sea arch just outside South Harbour on Cape Clear. Fastnet looms in the distance and is one of the top paddling draws in the country. With a good “blocking high” landing could be possible. And if the wind is kicking up, there are plenty of sheltered bays, with the choice of limited exposure to the conditions, tide races and so on. In addition to led trips in the area, we are organising skills sessions which will include roughwater, tide races, surfing, first aid, navigation, safety and rescue and more. We are organising activities for non-paddlers as well such as hillwalking, photography, and local history tours.

Casey’s Hotel is where we’ll be based. It is right in the centre of Baltimore. We’ll have it all to ourselves for the weekend and the folks in Caseys have been very helpful and accommodating. We’re looking forward to getting down there and having a blast and we hope to see you there.
